On International Translation Day: A Glimpse of Who I Am

On September 30 of every year, the world celebrates Translation Day, which is Saint Jerome’s Day (the patron saint of translators, aka the Bible translator).

This year’s Translation Day post will highlight 10 facts about me that I would like to share with all of my readers.

1- Ever since I started my career, my schedule has been ever-so-hectic. Everyone who knows me well knows that I am ALWAYS busy. Most of my clients also know me as the “Urgent Translator”. Even if I only have 1 single project on hand, you can count on it having one heck of a tight deadline.

2- I love food. I think you already know that by now. In another life, I think I would have been a chef. And while I’m at it, I have a confession to make: I love chocolate, as in real chocolate, but I don’t like chocolate-flavored desserts. Chocolate ice-cream ? Hell no. I know it’s weird, but hey, to each their own.

3- I’m a fitness fanatic, although it’s been getting a lot more difficult to stay consistent with my workouts ever since I gave birth to my second child. But I can still squeeze in at least 2 workouts a week. I inspired a few friends to hop on the fitness wagon along the way, and frankly that made me feel so good about myself!

4- I absolutely love my job (I think you also already know that by now). Plus, I am a grammar Nazi and I can’t help it!

5- While I love translation, I am passionate about interpretation. Every time I have an interpretation assignment, I literally jump from joy. I love the adrenaline rush it gives me.

6- I like trying new things. Whether it was food, a new activity or going to a new destination, I believe that a life well lived is all about the experiences.

7- I love writing more than reading. I have never been a reader, although I am making a bigger effort to read more.

8- I’m an adrenaline junkie. My favorite activities are usually fast-paced and packed with excitement. I still have a few activities on my bucket-list, and they include paragliding and skydiving.

9-I can’t start my day without having a cup of coffee. American coffee, that is. I can’t stand Turkish coffee!

10- Being a mom is the best job I have ever had and I will ever have! Family comes first, no matter what.
