Remembering Maya Angelou: My Top 10 Favorite Quotes

Today is a sad day for readers and poetry lovers.

Celebrated author and poet Maya Angelou died today at her home in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the age of 86, as confirms her publicist.

Born on April 4, 1928, Angelou wasn’t only an author and poet. She was also an accomplished actress, singer, songwriter, dancer, playwright, historian, director, civil rights activist and teacher. She was even a cable car conductor at one time.

Her successful career lasted 50 years, during which she received over 30 honorary degrees from universities around the world.

She has written 30 books, the most popular of which being the novel “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”.

It is well worth noting that Angelou was fluent in 6 languages. She also won three Grammy awards and was nominated for a Tony Award. In 2011, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Furthermore, she famously recited her poem “On the Pulse of Morning” at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993.

Her most famous works include her poem “Phenomenal Woman”.

Her last tweet was on May 23rd: “Listen to yourself and in that quietude you might hear the voice of God”. This might as well be her last quote.

The late poet’s quotes will be remembered forever. Below are my top 10 favorite Maya Angelou quotes:
