October: The Middle East’s Summer Closure

Hello, October!

October is here, which means summer is officially over. I think fall is a transitional season where business gets back into a certain vibe after quite a break. The month of October serves both as a closure for summer and a gate to the colder season. It’s not too hot, not too cold; just perfectly mild, with a cool breeze that will hopefully bring along new clients! Come on now, who doesn’t wish for a wider client base?

Here in the Middle East, summer is known to see a less hectic business schedule. The Gulf region is the most affected by this “laziness”, especially during the month of Ramadan, where everyone simply doesn’t feel like working. So if you’re a Middle Eastern (most probably Lebanese) translator who has clients from GCC countries, you will most likely find that they will send you much less work during this period of year, I know I do!

Now that summer is gone, the workflow is starting to kick back in, with companies getting back into a routine.

When it comes to freelancing, however, there is no such thing as routine. Every day it’s something, which is what makes it exciting.

I hope October will be good to all my fellow freelance translators!
