Attracting the Top Talent in Your Industry

When you have good employees, your business is just so much better in every way. The best employees have all the necessary skills and experience to take your projects forward and bring new ideas to the table. They tend to be happier and more productive in the workplace too. So, obviously, you are going to want to do everything in your power to ensure that you hire the top talent in your industry but how exactly do you do that?

Put in place a talent pipeline

If your business wants to ensure that they are able to attract the top talent, the first thing you need to do is to ensure that you have a talent pipeline in place that will enable you to reach out to both passive and active candidates. This means that you will be able to reach even those employees who aren’t exactly beating down your door to apply for positions by letting them know that there are opportunities available. If you aren’t sure how to do this, if you click here, you will be able to access outsourced HR professionals who can help you develop a strong talent pipeline that encompasses as many people as possible.

In the meantime, you need to think about opening the lines of communication with employees in your sector, even if they are not working for you right now. You may also want to set up an impressive recruitment page with all of the right keywords so that people in your niche can find you, and which lays out all of the benefits of working for your company. Setting up referral programs so your exiting employees can recommend people they know may also prove fruitful.

Showcase your brand

If you want to attract the best people, then you need to be able to present your company in the best possible light because, let’s face it, the highest qualified people who are great at their jobs and bring the results for their employers are always going to have their pick of companies.

You may be used to bigging up your brand for the customers, but it can be trickier to try and sell it to employees, but what you need to remember is that employees are looking for a workplace that is safe, fair, and engaging, as well a materially rewarding. If you can find examples of how your company can make their lives better and offer them all of those things, then you are more likely to bring them in. In order to showcase what you can offer, it’s a really good idea to set up a website that features interviews with happy current employees, and which also publishes details of any benefits you offer the staff along with a portfolio of some of the most interesting projects you have worked on. Basically, anything that will appeal to professionals in your niche should be included and made as visible as possible to draw in as many people as possible.

Ensure you offer great benefits

This is probably a really obvious point, but one very good way of attracting the top talent is to offer them a wide range of attractive benefits. after all, even people who love their jobs would probably not come to work if it was not for the pay and benefits, and even if you can ‘t offer higher pay levels than the competition, if you can put together a more attractive benefits package, you may just be able to steal the tip talent away anyway. For example, if you pay the same rate as the competition, but you offer a higher level of healthcare or you let your staff bring their dogs to work, there is a very good chance you will be able to attract a higher standard of candidates anyway. Top talent want to work in jobs where they are well remunerated and where they can have a fulfilling working life, that also offers an excellent work-life balance. This can be a tricky line to walk, but if you take some time to truly consider your benefits package, you should be able to get it right.

Make your employees your advocates

In the search for talented new hires, it can be all too easy to ignore the employees that you already have. If you truly want to attract the best people to your business, this is a really bad idea. Why? Because when your employees are feeling truly happy and engaged at work, you can turn them into your biggest advocates. They will be out there singing your praises and recommending your company to anyone and everyone. Since they already work in the industry, chances are they know a few other people who do too, and if even a fraction of those people are very talented, and a fraction of them are impressed by your employees’ obvious love of the company, well they might just take the time to apply for a role and that would be excellent news for you. If, on the other hand, your employees are largely demoralized, that won’t inspire many people to apply for pretty obvious reasons.

Put people first

On a related note, if your business is known to always put people first, then it will get a reputation as being a great place to work. So, focus your efforts on making your workplace a supportive one, and maybe also do some good things for charities outside of the workplace, to really bolster your image and attract more of the top talent to you.

Spend time on social media

These days, social media is a great place to showcase your business, so be sure to use it in your search for the best employees. Show them what it would look like to work for you by posting lots of candid workplace pictures, write about your charity work or any interesting projects you are working on, and engage with as many people as possible and it will hopefully prove to be a fruitful endeavor. Oh, and make sure that you are always honest because people can spot inauthenticity n social media very easily and they will be less than impressed to say the least.

Ensure the application experience is a good one

Of course, once you’ve attracted the top talent to at least apply for a role with your company, you can not rest on your laurels. Just because a person applies for a job does not mean that they will actually go ahead and accept the role should they be selected.

That’s why you also need to ensure that you make the application process as enjoyable as possible. Make sure that you do things like reviewing applications and holding meetings and interviews in time to show candidates that you take things seriously and put your employees first. Take candidates out for dinner with your existing employees so they can see first-hand the positive culture you have fostered, and really take the time to get to know them as individuals. This will help you to win them over and make them truly think that working for your business will be a good career move.

As you can see, attracting the top talent to work for your company will take a lot of time and effort on your part, unless you outsource, which is also an option, but it is so worth it because the top talent will always bring more value to your company in the long term than you spent on acquiring them, which means doing the above is just good business!
