Bonne Fête Nationale!

English-speaking countries/lands call the French National Day “Bastille Day”, which is celebrated on July 14 of each year. In France, it is formally called la Fête nationale (The National Celebration) and commonly and legally “le 14 juillet” (the fourteenth of July).

The French National Day marks France’s independence day as well as the storming of the Bastille, which is a medieval fortress, on July 14, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution, as well as the Fête de la Fédération which celebrated the unity of the French people on July 14, 1790 (source: Wikipedia).

Fireworks and celebrations are held throughout France, and Europe’s oldest and largest regular military parade is held on the morning of the 14th of July, on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, attended by the French President and other French officials and foreign guests.

Bonne Fête Nationale à tous les français!

Happy Bastille Day to all the French people!
