How to Make a Small Living Space Feel Bigger

Just because you live in a small house, it doesn’t mean you can’t make the space feel as big as possible. Even the tiniest nooks can have large personalities. All you need is plenty of inspiration and a little determination.

If you’re not sure how to get started, you’ve landed on the right blog. In this article, we will teach you how to make a small living space feel larger than life! Keep reading to find out our best tips and tricks…

Incorporate Natural Lighting

The more natural lighting you can incorporate into a small space, the better. Natural light turns confined and cramped rooms into spacious areas. During the evening, you can improve the lighting by purchasing standalone lamps and spreading light evenly throughout the room.

Create an Optical Illusion

Mirrors are often used in small spaces to create an optical illusion and give off the appearance of an expansive room. This is because mirrors are excellent at capturing light from both natural and artificial sources.

Pick the Right Furniture

One of the biggest mistakes you can make while decorating a small space is picking furniture that is too large. Make sure to play with size and scale. For example, choose warm loveseats instead of large sofas to make sure there is plenty of room to move around the furniture in the room.

Hang Your Curtains Correctly

Another way to create the illusion of more space and higher ceilings is to hang your curtains correctly. Make sure they are hung up high and wide. The end of the curtain should hang right above the floor without dragging.

Paint the Room Brightly

Make sure to stay away from dark colors when it comes to picking paint or wallpaper. Ideally, your color palette should incorporate plenty of neutral tones. If you do want to add some pops of colors, add these with cushions or décor.

Add an Oversized Art Piece

It sounds rather counterproductive, however, hanging up an oversized art piece can make the space look larger. The trick is to use art with horizontal or vertical lines that elongate the space. Similarly, you should pick minimalist pieces with a single subject that draws in the attention of the viewer.

Clear Out the Clutter

Last but not least, it’s incredibly important to clear out all of the clutter when you’re working with limited space. Try to keep your collection of books or decor as limited as possible. If you do need to store some extra things, make sure it’s tucked away neatly. We recommend you take this time to donate any unwanted items.

The most important thing about redesigning a small space is to make sure it feels like your own. Don’t follow unnecessary trends that won’t work well within your limited square footage. Be selective about the décor and try to keep the space as clutter free as you possibly can. With the right kind of inspiration and guidance, we’re sure your small space will become a success.
