HVAC Maintenance Tips For Businesses

When it comes to running a business, your business premises are a big part of what you have to do. Of all the systems that you might have operating in your building, your HVAC system is one of the most crucial. When it’s working properly, the HVAC system is what offers a comfortable environment for your employees, customers, and anyone else who might come into the building. To keep your HVAC system in good working order, it needs to have regular maintenance. Here are some of the most helpful tips for HVAC maintenance for business owners.

Change Your Filters Regularly

If there is one thing that you can do yourself between professional maintenance appointments and HVAC repair that can make the most difference to the performance of your HVAC system, it’s changing the filters. The intake vents take air into the system to heat or cool it, and then blow it back out into the building. The filter is there to stop dust, dirt, and other particles from being sucked into the ducts and the other inner machinery in the furnace and air conditioner. A dirty filter can allow these unwanted particles to get through, so it’s important to clean and replace them regularly. Ideally, you should replace the filters quarterly, but twice a year is the absolute minimum.

Why This Should Be Done

Dust and other particles that get into the ducts can get into the working machinery of your heating and cooling systems. When the HVAC system is dirty, it won’t work as well, if it works at all.

Any dust that gets past the intake filters can make its way through the system and back out through the vents, blowing dust and allergens around your premises.

Schedule Regular HVAC Maintenance

HVAC maintenance is just as important, if not more so, for your business as it is for your home. A business is usually a larger building than most family homes and is likely to have a lot more people in it on a daily basis. A business HVAC system is also likely to be larger with more ductwork and vets. Commercial HVAC companies usually suggest that you have maintenance done twice a year. One of these appointments should focus on your heating system, and the other should focus on cooling.

Why This Should Be Done

Maintenance will involve a thorough inspection of the whole system, which should identify any potential problems, such as parts that are loose or wearing out. These inspections can help you to avoid breakdowns and emergency repairs.

If you keep your HVAC system well maintained, it will run more efficiently, which can save you some money on the energy bills.

Monitor And Control Your HVAC System

A simple way to keep on top of your HVAC system’s performance is through the use of integrated systems. Also known as automated building systems, this is a way to network all of the systems in your building, such as your HVAC, security, internet, phones, and plumbing, and controlling and monitoring them all with a software package that works on computers, smartphones, and tablets.
