Selling Your Home? Follow These Tips Before Your Open House

Are you thinking about selling your home? There are many things you need to do before you can list your home on the market. Let’s take a look at four vital tasks that should be completed before you invite prospective buyers into your home.

Declutter

When people come to see your home they don’t want to see your stuff laying all over the house. They want to see nice, big, clear, empty spaces so they can envision their own belongings in the house. You should spend time decluttering and clearing out stuff you no longer need. A good way to do this is to go to each room and sort out three piles, one for keep, another for throw away, and the third for sale. This is a great way to see how much stuff you have and how much you don’t need.

You could hold a yard sale for the belongings that are in good condition but that you no longer need. This way you can get rid of your stuff and make some money at the same time. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure after all. If you have children, this is also a good way to teach them that it’s good to get rid of stuff and sell them or give them to other people.

Deep Clean

After you have spent time decluttering it is worthwhile to do a deep clean of your property. This ensures all your dirt and grime are gone ready for new people coming to look around and potentially buying your home. A deep clean should consist of cleaning places that are normally missed out when doing your usual house clean, such as oven hoods and extractor fans.

If you don’t feel you can do a good enough clean yourself then you can call in a professional cleaning company to do it all for you. It will be worth it to get a nice deep clean of the property. They will do all the surfaces, all appliances, and even clean carpets for you.

Repairs

If your house is in a state of disrepair then it will be a lot harder to sell as people don’t want to buy fixer-uppers. They would much prefer to look at homes that are fully functional and ready to move into.

If you have repairs that you have been meaning to catch up on then now is the time before you list your house for sale. You may have a hole in the roof causing issues with the floorboards and mold or there could have been a storm recently that has left the house a little bit worse for wear. If you don’t want to do these repairs yourself either because you don’t have time or they are too tricky for you to manage then why not call in an emergency restoration company to do it all for you.

Exterior

Finally, you need to ensure your exterior matches your interior in terms of cleanliness. The outside of the property is the first thing buyers will see, if they don’t like the look of it they will already have thoughts and opinions of the interior. To enhance your curb appeal you can paint the outside of the house, mow the grass, get rid of any weeds, and ensure the entrance looks appealing and welcoming. You can do this by making sure the front door is not chipping and looks good as new, if it needs a fresh coat of paint then go the extra mile to do this.
