3 Tips to Stay Productive While Working From Home

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was estimated that 50% of the workforce in the UK would work from home by 2030. Now that the pandemic has hit, that statistic has become an immediate reality.

More people than ever are working remotely to stay safe. But, many businesses are also starting to see the benefits of having employees that work from home.

Needless to say, for many, remote working is probably here to stay. While it can be extremely enjoyable thanks to the flexibility and comfort, it also can be hard for some people to stay productive in the comfort of their own home.

So, whether you’re a freelancer or working for a business, how can you be productive during your working hours so you can find a work-life balance? Let’s go over a few tips that can keep you motivated throughout the day.

1. Develop a Routine

Chances are, if you ever worked in a traditional office setting or any physical workplace, you had a daily routine.

Perhaps you worke up, went for a jog, took a shower, ate breakfast, etc. Everyone’s routine is slightly different. The importance is actually having one.

When you work from home, it’s just as important to have a routine. It will set your tone for the day and make you feel more productive. Otherwise, it can be far too tempting to wake up whenever you want, stay in your pajamas, and start working late. Unfortunately, this will cause more stress, a lack of motivation, and you might find yourself working odd hours because you’re playing “catch up”.

2. Have a Designated Space

In addition to having a daily routine, it’s also important to have a specific workspace within your home.

If you plan on working remotely indefinitely, it can be worth it to add a separate office to your home. If you have the budget and vision, you might want to consider working with someone like Bellriver home designers or builders near you to add an extension.

But, if you just want a small space, you can use a spare room in your home or even set up a small office area in your dining or bedroom. As long as you make sure to only use that space for work and nothing else, it doesn’t have to be large or separate from the rest of your home.

3. Take Breaks

You might think taking a break sounds counterproductive, but it’s a necessary practice in order to stay motivated throughout the day.

Take a five-minute break every hour just to stand, stretch your legs, and perhaps get a cup of tea or coffee. Once or twice throughout the day, take a longer break and spend some time outside.

Studies have shown that being out in nature can boost your energy levels and your mood while reducing stress. So, you’ll return to work feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the day.

Working from home might be the ‘new norm’ for many people, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be putting in 100% effort. Use these tips to stay productive at home, while still finding that perfect balance between work and life.
