Feeling Stuck? Try These Tactics To Get Your Life Moving In The Right Direction

Sometimes no matter what we do in life we can feel lost and stuck. Unfortunately, feeling this way tends not to be much fun at all, and can lead to lots of stress and anxiety. The good news is there are ways out of the swamp. Just keep reading to find out what they are. 

Set micro-goals

It may seem that making huge and sweeping changes is the best way to get your life up and moving in the direction you want to go. However, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed when you try to make big changes. Unfortunately, as you get overwhelmed, you are more likely to fail, and this can put you in a worse position than when you started. 

With that in mind, try setting smaller micro-goals, where success is easy. The benefit of these is that as you rack up streaks of success, you will build your confidence that you can make effective changes. This in turn should help you make more lasting changes over the long term. 

Identify your values 

Another tactic you can use to help get yourself unstuck is to identify your values. These should be things that are important to you, and that you can act on in your day-to-day life. The advantage of identifying and then working in line with your values is that they can help you make decisions when you are unsure of what actions to take. They can also provide a direction in which to work, rather than a set to-do list that can be restrictive and difficult to motivate yourself to do. 

Just be sure to set values that can translate into practical action. For example, if you value creativity, write down a few examples of how you could be creative today. Such as working on a craft project, doing 10 minutes or a drawing course, or writing 500 words of a blog post. 

Reach out for help 

Support is another hugely important thing that can help you get unstuck and out of a rut in your life. Indeed, when you have another person who can see things from the outside and also hold you accountable it can help you get things done.

Many people also turn to professional counseling services for help in moving their lives forward as well. Especially as they can bridge the gap between providing specific treatments for certain disorders and offering talk therapy which can help you come to your own realizations about how you would like to move forward in life. 

Try something new

Sometimes all we need to get us out of a rut is to have a new experience. Indeed, a little novelty can help us see things from a different perspective, as well as remind us what it is in life that fuels us and fills up our tanks.
