International Coffee Day: “Coffee” In Different Languages

Ah, coffee, the language of love. To me, there is nothing like waking up to the inviting aromas of a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Just that smell alone puts a smile on my face, let alone savoring that first sip that transports you to a different world where anything is possible, and gets you ready to conquer your day.

In honor of International Coffee Day, which is today, and since tomorrow is International Translation Day, how about we look at the word “coffee” in different languages?

Interestingly enough, the word “coffee” in Arabic is not the same as the “coffee bean”, whereas the latter is “بنّ” (pronounced Bann – with an emphasis on the “n”), as opposed to “قهوة” which translates to the coffee drink.
