One of the world’s most influential architects, Dame Zaha Hadid, died today at the age of 65 after suffering from a heart attack while being treated for bronchitis in a Miami hospital.

Born in Baghdad on October 31, 1950, Iraqi-British Zaha Hadid studied mathematics at the American University of Beirut, later moving on to study at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. She was the first female architect to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize. She also received the Stirling Prize in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, she was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In 2015, Zaha Hadid became the first woman to be awarded the RIBA Gold Medal in her own right.

Her neofuturistic designs are what distinguished Zaha Hadid. Her career was nothing short of amazing, with an immensely rich portfolio of designs spreading across the globe.

On the Lebanese level, the AUB Issam Fares Institute, which is designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, was one of the 9 best new university buildings around the world.

Moreover, Hadid taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and was considered a mentor, an idol and an inspiration to many.
