There is Love, and then there is a Mother’s Love

When I was young, I used to be a trouble maker (I still am), a wild child (yep, still am), and I was quite the handful (this is pretty much still the case). I gave my mom a hard time, and she really struggled during my teenage years as my dad was abroad and she was raising me and my siblings on her own during the weirdest and hardest phase of our lives.

Flash forward 10 years, and I was with a baby myself. It was only then that I realized how much patience, love and devotion it takes to raise a child. It was also only then that I truly grasped the meaning of the expression “time flies”. Life is like the blink of an eye, and there is no stopping the clock. You watch your babies grow to become toddlers, and then, as if snapping your fingers, they become grown up boys. I mean, my eldest is 7 years old already!

I never knew I could love this much, and I never truly knew my mother’s worth, nor did I realize how much she sacrificed, until I was standing rocking my own baby to sleep.

I am grateful for the blessing of motherhood. Becoming a mom is and will always be my biggest accomplishment in life.

I am also blessed with the best mother in the world. And while you don’t need a day to appreciate your mother and show her how much you love her, I will seize this opportunity to share the fact that I truly cherish the small things that make our bond a special one, like our morning phone chats, where we share with each other what’s for lunch, where I tell her what shenanigans my kids were up to, or where she tells me all about how she was bragging in front of grandma or other relatives how proud she is of my sister, my brother and me.

To my beautiful mom,

Thank you:

For putting up with my craziness for all those years,

For being the best grandmother my kids could ask for,

For teaching me everything I know about this life,

For being you, and telling me to be myself and be unapologetic about it,

For being the best listener one could ever ask for,

For knowing exactly what advice to give and when,

Thank you for loving me unconditionally.
