Strategies to Manage Long Term Pain

If you are someone who struggles with long-term pain, then you already know how debilitating it is. Constant pain is something you cannot escape; it is invisible and can completely take over your life. Trying to find ways to eliminate the pain can consume you. This search can lead you to some very interesting and dark places, and it may give you hope or crush it. Everyone’s pain is different, and things that work in some cases and completely useless in others. To give you a few ideas, though, here are some things to think about:

Learn to Manage Stress Better

Stress is an extremely common problem in the modern world. However, if you are already struggling with pain, stress can worsen it. Stress can cause you to tighten your muscles or cause them to spasm, which can make pain worse. It also increases the level of cortisol in the body, which can, over time, cause more inflammation, and this increases pain. So, the trick is to eliminate, or at the very least reduce, your stressors. Many things cause stress from people, financial problems, work, your home – if it is messy or cluttered, this causes stress. Anything that causes you to feel pressured can cause stress. Take a look at your life and rid of as many of the causes of stress as possible. This may mean ending a long-term relationship, finding a new career path, or even investing in a cleaner for your home. If you can reduce stress, you will find that instances of high levels of pain will also reduce.

Massage

Massage is a great way to relieve pain. It has the ability to relax muscles, joints, and tendons, which in itself reduces pain, which relieves stress too. Massage has the power to close off some pain by getting into the nerve fibers and stimulating them, which has the effect of stopping some pain messages from traveling up and to the brain. If you can get someone in your family to massage you as well as have a professional massage, you will benefit greatly from this.

Meditation

Learning to meditate can have several benefits. First, it is a way of relaxing the muscles more, and this can help massage be more effective. Meditation can help you live more in the present moment and can enable you to develop a new perspective on life which can help you with the mental and emotional side of coping with pain.

Alternative Remedies

There are a lot of other remedies and therapies out there for you t try. Some people swear by music therapy. This can help distract you from the pain – it is a strategy employed by long-distance runners, for example. Other therapies include acupuncture, cupping, magnetic waves, hypnosis, yoga, Pilates, and more. CDB oil is a great alternative to usual medications; take a look at Redeem therapeutics for more information about that. There are various other herbal medications too. A range of therapies may be what you need. It is a good idea to experiment with different things to see what works for you.
