To My Dad: For All the Missed “Sorrys” and “Thank Yous”
Dear Dad,
So many thoughts run through my mind this Father’s day, this one in particular, and it seems so confusing and I don’t know how to start off this post. I found myself almost speechless; I can’t come up with a decent introduction!
For all the times I failed to say “Sorry”
Sorry for not listening to you when your advice was for my best interest.
Sorry for having given and still giving you a hard time because of my stubbornness.
Sorry for all the times I failed to make a bigger effort to call more often, visit more often.
Sorry for all the wrong words that I uttered unintentionally out of anger.
Sorry for all the times I lied to you and you still trusted me; while I thought I knew better, I clearly didn’t.
For all that you have done for me
Thank you for being a great role model.
Thank you for being an amazing dad and a loving grandfather.
Thank you for all the times that you said “no” when I wanted you to say “yes” so badly. You knew better, every single time.
Thank you for all the times where I couldn’t have done it without your support.
Thank you for guiding me into becoming the successful career mom that I am today.
Thank you for all the arguments we had and still have, where it always ends up with one of us reaching for a dictionary to prove their point, where we both come out with a lesson learned, and where 9 times out of 10, I am the one learning the lesson.
Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
Thank you for supporting my decisions even when you didn’t approve of them.
Thank you for teaching me how to stand my ground and fight for my right.
But above all, thank you for putting up with the handful that I was and still am, thus teaching me almost all the lessons that I know about parenting. I am a good mother because you are a great father.
I am a mother today, but I will always be Daddy’s Girl.
Happy Father’s Day!
