Growing A Gardening Business In 7 Steps

Want to turn your gardening business into a thriving enterprise? Just like growing a tree from a sapling, growing a business takes patience and some TLC. Below are 7 steps to successfully growing a gardening business.

Find your niche

It’s harder to make your gardening business stand out if you claim to be a jack of all trades. Focusing on a niche gives you a USP and allows you to promote to customers who are willing to pay more for a specialist service. It involves honing your skills in a certain area and potentially investing in some specialist tools. Examples of gardening niches include lawn care, hedge sculpting, tree surgery, pond landscaping, organic gardening and commercial gardening

Build a strong brand

Building a recognized brand can help you to generate more customers. Start by establishing a catchy gardening brand name and then look into creating a logo and choosing brand colors. Other branding elements you can look into include a slogan, mascot or a jingle (if you decide to advertise on local radio).

Develop a digital presence

Most gardening companies attract many of their customers online nowadays. It’s important that you have a website and that this is optimized for search engines. Consider using a local SEO agency that can help you find keywords that competitor gardening companies may not be using. Doing some advertising on social media is also recommended. You could even consider creating video content of your work or taking before and after photos.

Source quality products

Using high quality products can show that you are a high quality business. Customers will also be willing to pay more if you’re using the best supplies and materials. This could include working with a top end topsoil delivery supplier and using the best quality fertilizers. If you install fencing or patios, it could also be worth using top quality timber and paving slabs.

Invest in insurance

Being a fully-insured company can not only protect you against lawsuits, but also build customer trust. Insurance cover worth taking out includes public liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance and employers’ liability insurance (if you have employees).

Nurture existing customers

Creating good relationships with your existing customers will help you to build your business. If your current customers are happy with your work, they may recommend you to others in person or via online reviews. They may also be willing to pay extra for other projects on top of regular maintenance.

Hire employees

There is only so much work you can take on yourself. Hiring employees allows you to take on bigger projects and get them done more quickly. You may even be able to let staff members who you trust take on jobs alone. There are many legal requirements you do need to consider when taking on staff and it does come with extra costs. However, it may be vital for helping you grow your revenue.
