Top Tips For Relocating Your Business

If you thought moving home was stressful, that’s nothing compared to executing a successful business relocation. After all, there’s a lot riding on this going well, and one wrong move could lead to disaster.

With that in mind, here are some top tips for relocating your business.

Have a really good reason to move. Relocating your business should not be a decision made on a whim. The timing has to be right, and you need a really good reason to uproot and move. For example, your move may be motivated by needing access to extra space, especially if your customer base is growing. Alternatively, you may need to opt for a place with better foot traffic if you struggle to get customers in through the door.

Time you move correctly. While you may want to relocate as quickly as possible, you need to ensure you get the timing right. For example, moving during your company’s peak season is not advised, as it often requires some form of downtime that could harm your bottom line. Planning as far in advance as possible also allows you to keep your customers in the loop.

Hire expert movers. Hiring experts, such as machinery movers, to help on the big day itself will also ensure that you pull off a successful move. Otherwise, you’re facing a great deal of heavy lifting that you’re likely massively underprepared for. Not only that, but attempting to transport machinery and goods yourself could lead to costly damages.

Discuss the move with your employees. Keeping your employees in the loop when considering (or pushing forward with) a move is also important. This is because they can then decide whether or not they’re happy to move alongside you, or if they need to seek out employment elsewhere. You can increase your chances of retaining your workforce by providing them with a relocation bonus.

Write out a to-do list. Writing out a to-do list of everything you need to do when relocating your business will help ensure that the entire process runs as smoothly as possible. It also means that you can ask for help on specific tasks, as opposed to feeling as though you have to do everything by yourself.

Change your address on Google Maps. With over 1 million monthly users, adding your business to Google Maps can bring in a significant amount of traffic, making it much easier for new customers to find your brand. For this reason, you should make sure that you add your new address to your profile as quickly as possible. Otherwise, people may be going to your old address inadvertently, which will sour the opinion of your brand.

Final thoughts. Whether you’re moving because you need a little more space, or want to be in the center of a city as opposed to the outskirts, following the advice above will ensure that you can remain stress-free and relaxed when relocating. This means that you can start to enjoy the benefits of this right away!
