Planning Your 2023 Health Goals

2022 is drawing to a close and most of us will spend the last month of the year reflecting on our achievements, letting out hair down, relaxing, taking some time off work and spending some quality time with our family and friends. This is also a great time to start looking ahead. 2023 is just around the corner and this could be your best year yet! It’s not all too surprising that now is a time that many of us begin to consider new years resolutions and settle on ways to make our lives better in general. Now, there are countless different routes you can take when it comes to this, but why not make your goal a healthier lifestyle? Health is wealth and treating your body right can really improve your day to day existence. Here are some tips that can help to guide this journey!

Diet

Diet is perhaps the biggest change you can make to your life in regards to your health. A healthy, balanced diet is essential for wellbeing. You need to make sure that the food you’re fuelling your body with is the best quality possible. Avoid convenience food that is packed with saturated fats, sugars and salts. Eat all the food groups in moderation. Get your five a day. Reduce processed foods in your diet. Hit your recommended daily calorie consumption, as recommended by your doctor.

Exercise

Exercise is another important element of a healthy lifestyle. It’s recommended that you get 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, so if you’re not hitting this goal, now is a good time to start. They key to success is self discipline and finding something that you actually enjoy doing. If you enjoy a form of exercise, chances are, you’re going to actually be more enthusiastic and likely to turn up. Discipline will help too. Even if you feel like not bothering, you need to push yourself to get up and go. Whether that’s a health club, swimming, dance, fitness classes, team sports or alternative forms of exercise.

Hydration

Hydration is so important but way too many of us neglect it. Instead of staying hydrated, we will simply forget or not bother to drink sufficient fluids. Water helps so many processes in your body, so it really is essential that you hit that recommended two litres a day. Why not take some time to look at ways you can encourage yourself to get your recommended liquids. You may find that getting a reusable water bottle helps – perhaps a one litre that you refill half way through the day, or a two litre bottle. You can also use habit tracking apps to provide yourself with reminders to drink throughout the day.

Sleep

Eight hours of sleep a night is important too. Failing to hit this goal each night can lead to sleep deprivation and issues with your physical, mental and emotional health. Set yourself a bed time and wakeup time and stick to it.

The above steps will all require discipline and dedication, but each can really make all the difference to your wellbeing. Hopefully, some of the tips and tricks can really help!
