Top Ways to Cheer Yourself Up

One of the most marvelous and yet heart wrenching parts of life is that we are subject to a whole menagerie of human emotions. From the sad and the angry ones to the happy and joyful ones, we experience these emotions in various forms every single day. The thing is, some people tend to resist their feelings, especially the sad ones.

Doing this can be more detrimental on our feelings though, and our day. You need to feel cheered up from time to time and you need to understand how to do that for yourself. From reading uplifting scripture verses to understanding how nature can make you feel good, cheering yourself up can be much easier than you think. Search, if you’re looking for easy ways to crack a smile again, here are some of the things that you need to do to cheer yourself up.

Laugh. It’s one of the most powerful ways that you can feel good about yourself. Laughing is like medicine, so whether you think your life is a big mess and nothing goes right, or whether you think that you couldn’t possibly lift a smile, laughing can help you to do it. Get together with friends and tell some jokes, or watch a comedy or a sitcom. Find a funny movie online or visit somebody who makes you happy. No matter what it is, find a way to laugh.

Move your body. Exercise may not be your idea of a good time, but it’s definitely something that can help to spark off those endorphins and make you happy. You don’t have to go to the gym and start pumping iron, though. The simplest way to cheer yourself up is to go for a walk. Even just 10 minutes in the sunshine can help you to improve your mood, relieve your stress, and cheer yourself up.

Own your feelings. If you’re trying to distract yourself from being happy, sad, angry or whatever by cheering yourself up, you’re going to struggle. You need to own the feelings you have and you need to sit with them for a while. It is OK to feel unhappy sometimes, and it is OK to feel low, it’s just human. Allowing yourself to sit with the feeling can help you to work through it in a way that is healthy rather than repress it and fake a smile.

Find the fun. Go out of the house, or go into another space in your house and find something fun to do. Anything, from painting or reading to watching TV or even going to the park and sitting on the swings in the kids park, can all help you to cheer yourself up. Try not to indulge in things like Donuts or ice cream to cheer yourself up, because that short term happiness is going to become something you lean on and that can just lead to other issues with your health. We don’t need to be on an unhealthy merry go round here.

Do something you enjoy. It’s obvious, right? Some people tend to punish themselves when they feel bad inside, but instead of punishing yourself, go out and find something that you enjoy doing. You might feel like you don’t deserve it, but relaxation can make all the difference.
