The Perfect Warehouse Relocation: 6 Tips for Success

Let’s not beat around the bush here. A warehouse relocation can be extremely busy and stressful. This isn’t the time to leave everything until the last minute and hope things work out correctly. A move of this caliber requires intense planning and forethought to execute the perfect warehouse relocation and minimize downtime, mistakes, and oversights.

But you already know that. Mastering your warehouse relocation can be instrumental in supporting your business while completing the move and enabling you to remove added stress and worry from the process.

Create A Timeline

From now to the completion date and even beyond if required, i.e., the settling-in phase. Don’t leave anything to chance. Proactively create a master to-do list with a timeline for completion so you have all the cogs in place and are ready to turn smoothly now that you know you’re ready to relocate.

Book Everything Early

These companies include your movers, cleaning crews, packers, new equipment, etc. The earlier you have your ducks in a row, the easier it will be for all the moving parts (pun intended ) to fall into place, and, more importantly, the more peace of mind you will have that everything is taken care of.

Use Expert Dismantlers

To move your equipment and machinery and have it reassembled in your new location, you should consider expert machine dismantling & installation services. This will ensure all of our equipment is handled with care at all times, especially if you need to reuse it and aren’t upgrading it. Even one part lost, damaged, or overlooked can impact the whole supply chain, but with expert services, you can be confident in a smooth transition.

Organise Inventory

Now is the ideal time to take stock of what you have. Much like you would for a residential move, identify those lines or items that you no longer want or need and slow-selling or aged lines and address them. Are you going to run sales to sell them through, donate, discard, or use them in other ways? Whatever you do, take stock of what you have and move forward with eliminating anything that doesn’t breed to move with you.

Coordinate with Shipping and Clients

This aspect is crucial. The last thing you want is to have to complete a client order right in the middle of relocation when you don’t have the actual ability to do so.

Talk to your shipping managers and engage with clients regarding deadlines, limitations, and your plans for your relocation. The further in advance you can put plans in place to minimise disruption, the more strategic and forward-thinking you will be. This will make the process easier once the move starts, and ensure no one is disappointed.

Coordinate and Delegate Staff

Once the process kicks into full action, you will need all hands on deck, so you need to look at how you will divide up work, how working hours and duties might change, and the impact it will have on your employees. From here, you can work with them to accommodate the needs of the business and your employees so that you can effectively delegate tasks and processes without causing too much interruption.
